Kids immunization India Vs USA and Travel vaccines

Vaccinations are very important in the journey of life for any human.Especially the young ones need it on time.

This becomes essential for people travel between continents with kids, I searched enough to verify the immunization charts between the countries to get my kid vaccinated, since I had to move from USA to India and back from India to USA. This post is the result of it. It is always best to check with your pediatrician well before your travel dates for any specific vaccines for the area you will be traveling specifically.
** If you are in USA make sure you and you kid gets flu shots every year before the season. Flu season usually starts after summer, this is mostly covered under insurance in walk in clinics.

When you travel from India to USA, make sure you enroll your kid in your insurance well in advance and schedule a pediatrician appointment as soon as you reach USA and confirm your kid is up to date with her immunization schedule.

When you travel from the USA to India, talk to your pediatrician and schedule a travel vaccination appointment. They usually give Typhoid and Malaria and one other Vaccination which I don't remember the name now. They don't give (at least my pediatrician did not give) Malaria vaccination, if your travel date is with in 2 weeks time, since the vaccination require at least a month time to take effect. For kids over 2 years they give typhoid vaccine.

11 Health Tips during winter for kids

Here are few tips to keep the kids on pace with their health and strength during the freezing  winter...
Tip1 : Hydrated - Make them drinking water in the cold weather is not easy as they don't sweat as in summer. Rich Vitamin C source juices with low-sugar and Antioxidant drinks are great choices for winter which gives lot of immunity.
Tip2 : Kids go on very passive mode, watching TV, just playing inside home. It is parent’s responsibility to make sure that they get at least an hour active playing time which helps them burn the extra calories they accumulate. Few activities like taking them along when you go to laundry, letter box, trash, even make them help you in doing the cleaning work at home.
Tip3 : Exercise – Even for kids of small age, it is a good practice to keep them in the routine of exercise so it  keeps them fit and active when there is no outdoor play due to freezing winter.
Tip4 : Keep the First-aid kit ready with you all the time, make sure you have babyrub (Baby Vicks) which helps a lot when they get caught Cold and fever. Apply sunscreen when the kids go out to play on a bright day since they get sun burn easily on winter than on a summer day.
Tip5 : Dress them covering head to toe. Make sure their shoe/shocks are of proper fit to them. Always make sure they wear a hooded jacket, covers the head and ears keep them warm. Wear them wool instead of a cotton or other materials. Sleeping sacks during the nights are a good option.
Tip6 : Humidifier at home keeps the air around warm, more than that it keeps room not go dry. This extremely helps when kids get cold and having cough.
Tip7 : Educate them to cover their nose and mouth when coughing or sniffing, also stay away or not to touch objects or other children without washing their hands.
Tip8 : Keep your home warm. Make sure your home heater equipment settings are proper, not too cold as they can not withstand or not to warm which will make them to stick to home and not going out.
Tip9 : Help them avoid cold drinks instead encourage them drink more fluids, milk, soup and eat fruits, cooked vegetables.
Tip10 : Always encourage them to get out of home and have fun outdoor. Mark some time in their calender as outdoor play time and remind them to follow the calender as you do for your meetings.
Tip11 : Make sure you give them home made food, this helps them take a well balanced diet not only the winter but around the year which strengthens their immune system.

Will gold prices come down?

From my opinion....the bitter truth is "Gold prices will never come down"..

There are enough supporting reasons for that...Few important reasons are below

  • Unstable share markets of countries, this is true for any country
  • Each country needs to have a quantity of Gold to qualify for loans from world bank
  • Now each country wants to increase their Gold holdings to sustain and stabilize their currencies
  • High demand and low/limited supply of this yellow metal

I remember few years back everyone was investing on mutual funds, one who invested in mutual fund before three years will almost get the same money he invested. Maximum 4 to 6% interest rated profit. But If you had invested in gold before 3 years, now you would almost  get 50% profit out of it.

World gold council says to invest on gold as to "Preserve your wealth". I think it is rightly said.http://www.gold.org/investment/why_how_and_where/why_invest/

Here is my first post in this blog for your interest, I wrote this almost 8 months back, still it holds good.

Why every Indian must know about Anna Hazare

Anna Hazare was born on 15 January 1940 in Bhingar, a small village near the city of Ahmednagar.
Anna Hazare started his career in the Indian Army as a driver in 1963. He spent his spare time reading the works of Vivekananda, Gandhi, and Vinoba Bhave; they inspired him to become a social worker and activist. During the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 he was the only survivor in a exchange of border fire while driving a truck in Khem Karan sector. During the mid-1970s he survived a road accident while driving.

After voluntary retirement from the army, Hazare went to Ralegaon Siddhi village in Ahamad Nagar district, Maharashtra in 1975. Initially he organised the youth of the village into an organisation named the Tarun Mandal (Youth Association). He helped to form the Pani Puravatha Mandals (Water Supply Associations) to ensure proper distribution of water. He remodeled the entire village as a self-sustained, eco-friendly & harmonic model village. Energy is produced in the village itself from solar power, biofuel and wind mills. In 1975, it used to be a poverty clad village. Now it is one of the richest village in India.

Now he is fighting with our national disease CORRUPTION. He is supporting a cause, the amendment of a law to curb corruption in India. He is advocating for a Bil, The Jan Lokpal Bill (The Citizen Ombudsman Bill), that will form an autonomous authority who will make politicians (ministers), beurocrats (IAS/IPS) accountable for their deeds. If this bill is passed in the parliament, then a LokPal will be appointed at the centre. He will have an autonomous charge, say like the Election Commission of India. In each and every state, Lokayukta will be appointed. The job is to bring all alleged party to trial in case of corruptions within 1 year. Within 2 years, the guilty will be punished. Not like, other cases running for decades without any result. Now you must have understood why every other politician is not interested in this.

We all used to think if this CORRUPTION goes out of our country we will be the best in the world, but never moved even a small single stone for that. but this Brave-heart has started a revolutionary fight for our democracy to be back. Please JOIN your hands....

Fathers day gift

Few ideas for fathers day gift. I always believe costly Gifts aren't the best ways to show your love...

Make your own card, write in a sentence or two about what you feel when you think of your dad...and give it to him on father's day with lot of love

Plan to spend the day together, present him an album of best photos of you and him

Cook/Prepare a lunch/dinner by yourself and have it with him, talk about the best moments you had with him

Frame the best photo of you two together, hug and say 'I love you dad' and give that to him

Find for his best friends contact whom he did not talk for a while and make them share some time together.

why father's day is celebrated?

Father's Day is a celebration honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society. It is celebrated on the third Sunday of June in many countries and on other days elsewhere.

when the fathers day celebrations started?

first observance of Father's Day actually took place in Fairmont, West Virginia on July 5, 1908. It was organized by Mrs. Grace Golden Clayton, who wanted to celebrate the lives of the 210 fathers who had been lost in the Monongah Mining disaster several months earlier in Monongah, West Virginia, on December 6, 1907. It's possible that Clayton was influenced by the first celebration of Mother's Day that same year, just a few miles away. Clayton chose the Sunday nearest to the birthday of her recently deceased father.

An ex-army man. Fought 1965 Indo-Pak War

2. What's so special about him?
He built a village Ralegaon Siddhi in Ahamad Nagar district, Maharashtra

3. So what?
This village is a self-sustained model village. Energy is produced in the village itself from solar power, biofuel and wind mills. In 1975, it used to be a poverty clad village. Now it is one of the
richest village in India. It has become a model for self-sustained, eco-friendly & harmonic village.

6. How that can be possible?

He is advocating for a Bil, The Jan Lokpal Bill (The Citizen Ombudsman Bill), that will form an autonomous authority who will make politicians (ministers), bureaucrats (IAS/IPS) accountable for their
deeds.

8. It's an entirely new thing right..?

In 1972, the bill was proposed by then Law minister Mr. Shanti Bhushan. Since then it has been neglected by the politicians and some are trying to change the bill to suit their theft (corruption).

7. Oh.. He is going on a hunger strike for that whole thing of passing a Bill ! How can that be possible in such a short span of time?
The first thing he is asking for is: the government should come forward and announce that the bill is going to be passed. Next, they make a joint committee to DRAFT the JAN LOKPAL BILL. 50%
government participation and 50% public participation. Because you cant trust the government entirely for making such a bill which does not suit them.

8. Fine, What will happen when this bill is passed?
A LokPal will be appointed at the center. He will have an autonomous charge, say like the Election Commission of India. In each and every state, Lokayukta will be appointed. The job is to bring all alleged

9. Is he alone? Who else is there in the fight with Anna Hazare?

Baba Ramdev, Ex. IPS Kiran Bedi, Social Activist Swami Agnivesh, RTI activist Arvind Kejriwal and many more. Prominent personalities like Aamir Khan is supporting his cause.

what is not good to eat when breastfeeding

As I said in what is good to eat while breastfeeding, healthy and balanced diet is very important for you and your baby. During breastfeeding you need additional 300 -500 calories per day.
Now that you are out of pregnancy sickness, you might feel like eating anything. But for the baby's development nutritious food is very important.

My personal suggestion would be to avoid all the below in the same order of importance
Drinking alcohol
Smoking

Junk foods
Deep fried /oily stuffs
Fish with mercury
Raw meat
Raw eggs

Also, check with your medical adviser before taking any medication for any illness. All the best for you and your baby...

Food when breastfeeding

Almost your diet will continue as you were during your pregnancy...But don't worry too much...your body is already prepared for this for months now...

All the do and don't  of pregnancy follows you here, as you were serving your baby within you earlier and now outside. However you are the source of energy and your food is the food for the baby.

Healthy and balanced food, fiber rich, calcium, fruits, vegetables, lot of water all goes with you.

Another Tip, follow your prenatal supplement until you wean your baby, it is good for you and your baby.

Your chances for dehydration and constipation are very high. it will get you very tired. Drink lot of water or you can drink one or two doses of fat free milk to boost up your energy. This helps your milk supply.

All the best.....Have a wonderful time with your baby...as this is the real bonding time for you both...

ICC World Cup Cricket updates

Cric festival has started for this year....:-) fun thrilling....exciting.....and what not.... The 2011 Cricket World Cup is set to begin on February 19th. The event will take place in various venues in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. This is the 10th edition of the Cricket World Cup. The event will feature 14 teams gunning to be the best cricket team in the world. Here is a guide to the event.
Where?
The 2011 Cricket World Cup is being hosted 3 nations. Originally, Pakistan was to be a co-host. However, after an attack on the Sri Lanka team in 2009 led to them losing their hosting rights. Now, all of the matches will be held in India, Bangladesh, or Sri Lanka. Mumbai, India will host the final. There will be one semifinal in India and another in Sri Lanka. Each of the three nations will host at least one quarterfinal.

When? The opening ceremony will take place on February 17th in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The first match will take place on February 19th when India faces Bangladesh. The group stages will conclude on March 20th. After that, the knockout stage will begin March 23rd. There will be one quarterfinal match on each day between March 23rd and March 26th. The first semifinal will be held in Sri Lanka on March 29th followed by the second semifinal in India on March 30th. The final match will take place on April 2nd in Mumbai
The Format
There are 14 teams in the 2011 Cricket World Cup. That is down from 16 in 2007. Instead of 4 groups, there will only be 2 groups of 7 teams each. The group stage will be a round robin format. This means that each team will play the other 6 teams in their group once. The top 4 from each group will advance to the knockout stage. There will be a total of 49 matches played at the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
The Teams
Group A will feature Australia, Kenya, Pakistan, Canada, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, and New Zealand. Group B includes India, Bangladesh, England, Ireland, Netherlands, South Africa, and the West Indies. The groups are set up so that some major rivalries can take place. Australia is the defending champion and has won more World Cups than any other country. They are likely the favorite again, but the host nations will be tough to eliminate.

Natural Cancer Fighting Foods or Cancer Healing Foods

There are several cancer fighting foods that prevent cancer. These cancer foods can prevent breast cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, skin cancer, ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, liver cancer, etc.
A growing body of research shows that fruits and vegetables, especially richly coloured varieties, can reduce the risk of cancer. The raw vegetables are more beneficial. However, note that all vegetables like cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, Brussel sprouts, etc. cannot be taken raw as they contain oxalates, excess of which can lead to gall stones. Never overcook vegetables, it will help retain their benefits. There are several cancer fighting vegetables and fruits.
  1. Apple
The apples have anti-cancer properties. Apple can either inhibit or kill cancer cells, according to a Cornell University research carried out in october 2007. The research team identified about 10 compounds, triteroenoides in apple peel that have potent anti-proliferation activities against human liver, colon and breast cancer cells.
  2. Avocado
It is a powerful antioxidant and a strong source of phytochemicals - betacarotene, vitamin C, folate, vitamin E and unsaturated fats. Recent studies (2007) at the Ohio State University, says that extracts from Hass avocados could kill oral cancer cells as well as arrest their growth. The phytochemicals present in avocado either kill the pre-cancerous cells or stop the growth of pre-cancerous cells in the body without affecting normal cells.
  3. Broccoli & Cabbage
The cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and cabbage contain a isothiocyanates and indole-3-carbinol which are known to lower cancer risk. The indole-3-carbinol converts cancer promoting estrogen into a protective element, sulforaphane. The sulforaphane raises the levels of certain enzymes that defend the body from cigarette smoke, pesticides, fumes, etc.

Researchers at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York reported at the meeting of the American Association of Cancer Research in Dec 2007 that just 3 servings a month of raw broccoli or cabbage can reduce the risk of bladder cancer by as much as 40%. The effects were most striking in non-smokers.
It has recently been discovered that the compounds isothiocyanates in broccoli can actually kill breast cancer cells in a similar way to chemotherapy drug taxol and vincristine, reports the Daily Express in 2009. This research was done at the University of California by Professors Leslie Wilson and Mary Ann Jordan at the University’s Santa Barbara laboratories.
  4. Garlic and Onion
It contains alluvium compounds that improves immune power, block carcinogens from entering cells and slow tumor development. Studies have linked garlic and onions to lower risk of stomach and colon cancer. Fresh raw garlic is more beneficial.
According to a research carried out in 2007 by Carlotta Galeone of the Institution di Ricerche Farmocologiche in Milan, people whose diets are rich in onions, garlic, and other alliums have a lower risk of several types of cancer than those who avoid them.
  5. Grapefruit, orange and citrus fruits
The citrus fruits contain contains vitamin c, beta-carotene and frolic acid that help to prevent cancer and reduce cholesterol.
  6. Kale
It contains certain nitrogen compounds, isothiocyanates, phytochemicals that may stop the conversion of certain lesions to cancerous cells in estrogen-sensitive tissues, and also may suppress tumor growth.
  7. Mushrooms
Eating 1/3rd of an ounce of fresh mushrooms daily could slash the risk of breast cancer by 64 per cent in both pre- and post-menopausal women, says a new research published in the International Journal of Cancer in March 2009. Dried mushrooms had a slightly less protective effect, reducing the risk by around half. There is evidence that mushrooms act in a similar way to breast cancer drugs called aromatase inhibitors which block the body’s production of the cancer-feeding hormone oestrogen.
  8. Papaya
It has vitamin C, an antioxidant and folic acid. It may reduce absorption of cancer-causing nitrosamines from the soil or processed foods. Antioxidants and folic acid have been shown to reduce certain cancers.
  9. Pineapple
According to researchers at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, pineapple fights cancer growth as extract of crushed pineapple stems, bromelain promise in fighting cancer growth.
  10. Sweet Potato
It contains lot of beta-carotene, vitamin C and folic acid which may protect DNA in the cell nucleus from cancer causing chemicals outside the nuclear membrane.
  11. Tofu
Tofu contains estrogens that could help prevent breast cancer and prostate cancer by blocking and suppressing cancerous changes.
  12. Tomato & Broccoli
The results of a recent research conducted at the Food Science and Human Nutrition at the University of Illinois, indicates that eating tomatoes and broccoli together may offer better protection against cancer than eating either vegetable alone. "Separately, these two foods appear to have enormous cancer-fighting potential. Together, they bring out the best in each other and maximize the cancer-fighting effect," Erdman said.

Natural Foods that Fight Cancer

Tea (green and black), ginger, garlic, broccoli, onions, carrots, mushrooms, soyabeans, tomatoes, papaya, avocado, apple, pineapple, citrus fruits like oranges, grapefruit, sweet lime and lime, etc., green vegetables like spinach, lettuce, broccoli, french beans, radish leaves, green fenugreek (methi), okra (bhindi), sarson saag (mustard leaves), etc. have cancer preventing chemicals. The darker the green vegetable, the more is its anticancer effect. For prevention of cancer, you should eat dark green vegetables which contain betacarotene, lutein and folic acid - helpful in cancer prevention and healing.
