The event will take place in various venues in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. This is the 10th edition of the Cricket World Cup. The event will feature 14 teams gunning to be the best cricket team in the world. Here is a guide to the event.
Where?
The 2011 Cricket World Cup is being hosted 3 nations. Originally, Pakistan was to be a co-host. However, after an attack on the Sri Lanka team in 2009 led to them losing their hosting rights. Now, all of the matches will be held in India, Bangladesh, or Sri Lanka. Mumbai, India will host the final. There will be one semifinal in India and another in Sri Lanka. Each of the three nations will host at least one quarterfinal.

When? The opening ceremony will take place on February 17th in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The first match will take place on February 19th when India faces Bangladesh. The group stages will conclude on March 20th. After that, the knockout stage will begin March 23rd. There will be one quarterfinal match on each day between March 23rd and March 26th. The first semifinal will be held in Sri Lanka on March 29th followed by the second semifinal in India on March 30th. The final match will take place on April 2nd in Mumbai
The Format
There are 14 teams in the 2011 Cricket World Cup. That is down from 16 in 2007. Instead of 4 groups, there will only be 2 groups of 7 teams each. The group stage will be a round robin format. This means that each team will play the other 6 teams in their group once. The top 4 from each group will advance to the knockout stage. There will be a total of 49 matches played at the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
The Teams
Group A will feature Australia, Kenya, Pakistan, Canada, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, and New Zealand. Group B includes India, Bangladesh, England, Ireland, Netherlands, South Africa, and the West Indies. The groups are set up so that some major rivalries can take place. Australia is the defending champion and has won more World Cups than any other country. They are likely the favorite again, but the host nations will be tough to eliminate.
